In 11 departments grew the potato production in February of 2024 and contributed with the 45.5% of the national production

During February of 2024, the potato production increased in the departments of Apurímac (355.0%), Puno (127.3%), Ayacucho (29.4%), Huancavelica (27.4%), Junín (25.6%) and Arequipa (23.7%), which concentrated the 45.5% of the total production. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
 
In addition, it increased in Piura (124.8%), Lambayeque (58.9%), Tacna (26.3%), Ancash (7.5%) and Cajamarca (0.4%). This performance was favored by the increase of the harvested area of this tuber of great demand in the domestic market for the consumption of households and business such as restaurants.
 
Meanwhile, it basically decreased in Lima (-73.5%), Cusco (-17.9%) and Huánuco (-8.5%); nevertheless, this last department remained as the first producer in the country.
 
At national level, potato production totalized 342 thousand 657 tons and expanded in 10.9%, in the second month of this year, compared to February of the last year.
 
Lima, Ica, Ayacucho and Huancavelica contributed with the 63.1% of the avocado production at national level
The departments that outstood by its greater production of avocado were Lima (394.1%), Ica (185.0%), Ayacucho (115.5%) and Huancavelica (81.6%), by contributing together with the 63.1% of the national total. Nevertheless, it reduced in Lambayeque (-80.0%), Apurímac (-22.0%) and Ancash (-3.3%), among others. 
 
During February of 2024, the avocado production totalized 57 thousand 257 tons, which means a growth of 47.4%, compared to the same month of the last year (38 thousand 846 tons). This positive behavior explained by the greater harvests performed that were influenced due to good thermal conditions that favored the maturing period stage of the fruit, intended both for foreign market and for the agroindustry.
 
Poultry production contracted in 21 departments
During the second month of the current year, the poultry production was affected in 21 departments, mainly in the producer zones placed in La Libertad (-5.3%), Ica (-4.6%), Arequipa (-3.2%) and Lima (-0.6%); contributing with the 88.2% of the national poultry production. This result was tempered by the increase registered in the departments of Moquegua (1.9%), Amazonas (1.2%) and Cajamarca (0.05%).
At national level, the poultry production, decreased in 2.3% due to the lower placement of BB chicken of meat line and fattening turkeys, which was associated to the high temperatures (heat waves) reported during the month under study, that affected in the growth of the birds, generating a shortage of chicken and consequently increase of price.
 
66.0% of the copper production of the country was driven by five departments
During February of 2024, the copper production increased in the departments of Cusco (135.0%), Apurímac (32.1%), Moquegua (31.7%), Tacna (30.5%) and Ancash (1.5%), which contributed with the 66.0% of the national copper production. Likewise, it grew in Pasco (40.0%) and Lima (3.5%). 
 
Meanwhile it decreased in Ica (-34.9%), Cajamarca (-27.8%), Junín (-22.4%), Ayacucho (-8.6%) and Arequipa (-4.4%).
 
The copper production increased in 13.6%, at national level, due to the greater volumes extracted in the Mining companies, such as Antapaccay, Anglo American Quellaveco, Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Minera Las Bambas, Hudbay Perú, El Brocal and Antamina, among the most distinguished.
 
Electricity production outstood the increase in six departments
The INEI informed that the electricity production grew mainly in the departments of Ica (103.5%), Moquegua (62.4%), Cajamarca (14.6%), Lima (9.6%), Huánuco (6.1%) and Huancavelica (1.8%), by concentrating the 75.6% of the total generation of energy. Nevertheless, it decreased in Arequipa (-38.7%), Piura (-18.1%), Lambayeque (-13.4%) and Cusco (-7.2%).
 
The production of electric energy increased in 8.4%, during February of 2024, determined by the greater generation in the thermoelectric power stations of Kallpa, Las Flores, Chilca 2, Independencia, Ventanilla and Caña Brava; linked to the high generation in the hydroelectric power stations of Santa Rosa I, Chimay, Yanango, Charcani V, Chaglla, Ventanilla and Cañón del Pato, among the main ones. In addition, it contributed the production of non-conventional renewable energy (Eolic and solar).
 
Revenues collected by Internal Taxes
During February of the current year, the revenues collected by internal taxes registered 9 thousand 924 million 162 thousand Soles, a lower figure in 0.2% compared to the registered in the same month of the last year, mainly due to the lower payments of the income tax of the second, third and fourth category.
 
This collection reduced in Ancash (-35.8%), Ica (-20.4%), Piura (-16.2%), Tumbes (-14.0%), Arequipa (-13.1%), Amazonas (-6.9%), Lambayeque (-6.9%), Moquegua (-3.9%), Cajamarca (-1.1%) and Tacna (-0.4%). Nevertheless, it grew in La Libertad (5.3%) and Lima (0.8%), which represented the 89.0% of the collected total.
