Commerce sector increased 4.89% in December of 2025

Commerce sector registered a growth of 4.89% in December of 2025, compared to the same month of the year 2024, the greater growth registered since March of 2022, explained by the solid performance showed by its three components; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).


In addition, it informed that this economic sector, closed the year 2025 with an increase of 3.59%, compared to the year 2024.


Wholesale trade increased by 4.56%
During the last month of the year 2025, the wholesale trade grew by 4.56%, compared to the same month of the last year, due to the sale of solid, liquid, gas fuels and allied products, before the dynamism of the transportation of goods due to Christmas campaign and greater vehicular flow due to the end of the year. Likewise, the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs increased due to tenders and renovation of equipment of mid to high end product segment.


In addition, it increased the sale of natural products, veterinarian products, information security equipment, chemical fertilizers and plastic products for the household; la sale of metals and metal ores minerals was favored due to the rise of copper, gold and silver; as well as the sale of construction materials and hardware articles, due to mining, real-state and self-construction investment. Likewise, the sale of agriculture raw materials and live animals grew.


The sale of household goods registered a significant increase, explained by the demand of pharmaceutical and medical products, cosmetics, personal care and household cleaning products, perfumery, household appliance, cutlery and dishware articles, before the Christmas campaign and the start of activities of new sales points. On the other hand, the sale of agriculture machinery, equipment and supplies.


Retail trade registered a growth of 4.65%
During December of 2025, retail commerce increased by 4.65%, compared to the same month of the year 2024, due to the good performance of department stores with discounts by physical and digital channels. Likewise, it increased the greater sale in supermarkets and minimarkets due to the demand of foods and beverages due to the Christmas campaign and new points of sales at national level. The sale of computers and peripheral equipment was promoted by events such as the “Cyber Monday”.


At the same time, it grew the sale of technologic devices, optical articles, veterinarian products, agro-chemicals and jewelry, due to campaigns and inauguration of new establishments. The demand of clothing items, footwear, leather articles was influenced by the renovation of clothing items, campaigns, flow of customers in physical stores and specialized stores. In the same sense, it increased the sale of household appliances, furniture, lightning equipment and musical instruments due to variety of products, Christmas campaign and demand of smart households.


In addition, it registered positive behavior the sale of hardware articles and glass products, in the line of sanitary and lining equipment, for self-construction and refurbishment projects of households. It grew the sale of fuels and lubricants for automotive vehicles in supplying and self-service points. Likewise, it expanded the sale by e-mail and by internet by discounts in the Web.


Automotive trade increased by 8.83%
During December 2025, the automotive trade expanded by 8.83%, compared to December of the last year, based in the greater demand of light-duty, heavy-duty and small vehicles. This performance was explained by the implementation of commercial strategies such as the fairs of “Toyotathon 2025”, “Wigo Christmas Fest edition 2025” and “2025 Andes Fair”, as well as the celebration of the “Day of the Motorcycle”, the availability of the CTS and the withdrawal of the pension funds.


Likewise, the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles grew due to the acquisition of pneumatics and motors, in promotion campaigns; as well as the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles in line with greater service orders, linked to the rectification of cylinders, replacement of hoses, leakage monitoring and services of washing and polishing.
