INEI: Traffic Flow of vehicles at national level grew by 5.1% in December of 2025

During December of 2025, traffic flow of vehicles through tollbooths at national level increased by 5.1% compared to the same month of 2024; and in the year 2025 increased by 3.9% compared to the last year, informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).


According to the Technical Report Traffic Flow through Tollbooth Units, the monthly behavior was based in the greater traffic flow of light-duty (6.1%) and heavy-duty (3.8%) vehicles.


Traffic flow of light-duty units increased by 6.1% due to different celebrations
During December of 2025, traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooths of the country grew by 6.1% compared to the same month of 2024, driven mainly by the holiday of the Immaculate Conception, the Battle of Ayacucho, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, the non-working day of December 26th, gastronomic fairs “Sabores de Chancay” in Lima and the “First International Fair of Cacao I Feria International of Peru Excellence Cacao” in Cusco.


These holidays motivated the movement of tourists towards different regions of the country, dynamizing the retail trade, entertainment activities, and accommodation and restaurants. During 2025, the rate of traffic flow of light-duty vehicles increased by 3.8%.


Tollbooth units that registered the higher traffic flow of light-duty vehicles were: to the north in Piura (Paita 32.6%, Chulucanas 14.4%, Piura Sullana 14.2% and Loma Larga Baja 11.9%); Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 16.4%); Cajamarca (Pomahuaca Pucará 15.7%); Áncash (Huarmey 13.1%); San Martín (Aguas Claras 12.3%, Pongo 10.7%, Moyobamba 2.2%) and La Libertad (Chicama 12.2%, Virú 10.9% and Pacanguilla 9.9%).


In the center, there was more traffic flow in Junín (Casaracra 13.6% and Quiulla 9.6%) and Lima (El Paraíso 12.1%, Fortaleza 11.1%, Corcona 11.1%, Variant of Pasamayo 6.8% y Serpentine of Pasamayo 5.1%). Likewise, in the south in Arequipa (Patahuasi 25.3%, Uchumayo concession 8.1% and Matarani concession 7.0%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 16.4%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuellar 15.1%, Ilo 5.7%), Ica (Marcona 12.3%, Jahuay Chincha 11.7%) and Apurímac (Pichirhua 12.2%).


Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased by 3.8%
During the last month of 2025, the movement of heavy-duty vehicles through the tollbooths units of the country increased by 3.8%, compared to December of 2024.


This behavior, was explained by the high demand of the transportation service for loading, favored by the growth of the agribusiness sectors, due to the higher cultivated areas and proper weather conditions in different agriculture areas of the country; as well as the fishing, due to the increased extraction of species of continental origin in fresh state such as the trout, harvest fish, boquichico and tilapia fish.


In addition, also due to manufacturing sector, associated to the development of the development of the non-primary manufacturing sector (capital goods and intermediate products) and the primary manufacturing subsector (manufacturing of primary products from precious metals and other non-ferrous metals); construction, due to the high domestic cement consumption and the physical progress of works at the level of local government; and the wholesale trade, based in the higher sales of fuels, solid, liquid and allied products, the movement of goods due to Christmas campaign and distribution to retail sales points.


Tollbooth units that registered a high traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles, were: to the north, in Piura (Paita 25.0%, Piura Sullana 12.7%, Chulucanas 3.3%, Loma Larga Baja 1.2%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca Pucará 13.7%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 10.2%), La Libertad (Pacanguilla 10.1%, Chicama 7.2%, Virú 6.6%), San Martín (Pongo 9.2%, Moyobamba 6.2%, Aguas Claras 4.2%), Áncash (Huarmey 4.8%).


In the center, it increased in Junín (Quiulla 11.4%, Casaracra 1.7%) and Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 6.0%, Variant of Pasamayo 5.9%, Fortaleza 5.0%, El Paraíso 4.1%, Corcona 3.4%). And in the south, in Arequipa (Patahuasi 40.0%, Matarani concession 25.6%, Uchumayo concession 23.7%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 26.6%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 16.5%), Ica (Marcona 14.8%, Jahuay Chincha 10.2%) and Moquegua (Pampa Cuellar 8.3%).


Traffic flow of heavy-duty for loading vehicles of 3 to 7 axle increased by 3.4%
During December of 2025, the movement of heavy-duty for loading vehicles of 3 to 7 axle registered a positive variation of 3.4%, compared to the same month of 2024, explained by the greater traffic flow of loading vehicles, such as trailers, semi-trailers heavy-duty for loading trucks of 3 axle (4.9%), 4 axle (7.7%) and 6 axle (3.7%); nevertheless, it decreased in 5 axle (-4.9%) and 7 axle (-3.8%).
